Toyota Formula One (F1) car TF108 takes on the Batmobile at Silverstone
An oldie but goodie. As a promotion for the The Dark Knight movie, last year Timo Glock drove the Toyota TF108 F1 car at Silverstone circuit against the actual Batmobile. A running and driving movie prop, the Batmobile of course would get destroyed on a racetrack against the 900hp F1 car.
According to the Hollywood press news, the Batmobile is around 3m at its widest point, 4.5m long and 1.5m high. Weight rings in at 2.5 tons. It is equipped with a 5.7-litre, 340hp engine which runs on regular unleaded fuel. No mention of the jet engine strapped to the back of it. The vehicle has six wheels - two in the front (outfit with sprint car race tyres) and four at the back (which utilize monster truck tyres). Back flaps can also be engaged for making shorter stops.
Just watching it roll and lumber around in the movie would lead us to rightfully assume that the Batmobile was not designed to go around a track. It was made to blow through cement walls and get rockets shot at it by The Joker. Still, it's a mighty impressive sight seeing it next to a F1 racecar.
