Grassroots Upset At The 2011 RallyCar Sno*Drift Rally
More than living up to its name, Sno*Drift Rally is the only winter rally on the RallyCar calendar and sees ambient temperatures as low as 0-degrees during night stages.

This particular Lancer Evo 9 was born as a Sport Compact Car magazine project car. From those days on, this trusty Mitsubishi saw the skidpad, figure-8, drag strip, road course, autocross, track days, and time attack competition.
Their new Type-33F intercooler is a bolt-on front-mount kit that has 60% more core volume. It’s a tube and fin design with divided endtanks
Consisting of time trials, an open GTGP Challenge race, Pirelli Drivers Cup USA Porsche race, and historic stock cars, the GTGP weekend was a mix of both time attack and wheel-to-wheel road racing.
To most people, wheels are not a disposable wear item. Your OEM set should last a lifetime and your aftermarket wheels three, right? As we can prove – it all depends.
The invasion of the 500hp all-wheel drive rallycross cars continues in the US. Following up on an exciting run at X-Games 16, rallycross hit the New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) for the first ever RallyCar Rallycross competition.
Prior to X-Games 16 in Los Angeles, we caught up with Team BF Goodrich. Here we go on board with Andrew Comrie Picard and his 600hp Lancer Evolution 9 rally car.
With larger air intake restrictors allowed, ACP’s Evo IX generated almost 600hp with a built engine and 114-octane equivalent ethanol racing fuel. ACP doesn’t make use of the special ethanol fuel during regular rally events
We speak with Andrew Comrie-Picard “ACP” about his Rally America championship efforts and then go on board with ACP’s 600hp Evo 9 in a dirt course outside Irwindale Speedway.
Mother Nature is actually out to puncture and flip your rally car but that’s just part of the fun. So, how come rally racing isn’t as big as NASCAR in the US?
Held at Eastern Creek Raceway, less than a half hour drive out of Sydney, the WTAC was one of the first international time attack events, drawing in competitors from the US, Australia, and Japan.
It still needs the accessories, head, turbo, and oil pan to be swapped over from our old engine. Needless to say, it didn’t drive to the Mitsubishi Owners Day 2010 show.
The fans and show attendees also came back this year stronger and deeper. With MOD scheduled to being at 9AM, we spied long lines of Mitsubishi owners sitting in their cars at 6:30AM, ready to enter the parking areas.
We pay a visit to suspension tuner Whiteline Automotive in Somersby, Australia and check out their P-29 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and P-28 Subaru Impreza WRX STI project cars.
We got the chance to ride in the Subaru WRX STI and drive the Lancer Ralliart through the twisty mountain roads just around the corner from Whiteline Automotive. The Subaru WRX STI, which has a bone stock engine, was no louder or rougher than stock…
Taking place in the middle of the California desert, one thing was sure about Redline Time Attack’s “Liberty Grand Prix” – it was hot as hell. The time attack event derived its name from the fact that it took place on July 4th weekend, combining track cars with bbq, beer, and a fireworks display in the middle of the track on Saturday night.
Faster on track than a Porsche 911 Turbo while using full tread, wet weather capable street tires. Once we play further with spring rates, alignment and other adjustments, we’ll be able to pick up even more speed. Simply. Badass.
AMS claims 650whp out of the 35R-equipped 2.3-liter engine. Lots of parts and surely you couldn’t it again for the same price, but is this car worth $125,000?
Like a good set of tires, drivetrain is an often-overlooked area of car tuning. Many obsess over blowers, exhausts and wheels but when it comes time to get that project buttoned up, the cheapest clutch kit is usually shoved in.
Project Evo IX’s last track outing did not go well. On top of being outgunned power-wise in the Street AWD class (our 350whp stock turbo setup always is), we discovered that our rear limited-slip differential had given up the ghost.
