APR Performance Open House

Bodykits, spoilers and other aerodynamic parts have always been a tricky subject for OR readers. Our money needs to be spent where it matters most – going faster. There’s no time for fancy dress-up tricks that don’t do anything or attract unwarranted attention for no reason. That’s why we’ve always liked the guys at APR Performance.

The body and aero manufacturer has always had a knack for producing functional parts that aren’t fifteen different neon colors. Their bodykits are designed solely to be able to fit larger rubber underneath a car and follow the factory body lines. No extra fins, gills, wings or any other fish parts are added to their aero.

They’ve most recently begun to push into the domestic sports car market and opened their headquarters up to celebrate their newest V8- and V10-powered offerings. Carbon fiber has always been an APR specialty and their fans represented, with numerous Chevy Corvettes (C6s and Z06s) and Dodge Vipers sporting the latest APR front wind splitters, rear wings and rocker extensions. These guys were all track day enthusiasts who decided they needed a functional “C5R” look to their cars.

APR also had on display their widebody Ford Mustang and an in-progress customer-owned Shelby GT500. Brand new and dropped off to get a widebody kit and huge tires. Somebody’s looking to make some real power later on. And judging from the number of Ford Mustang burnout and “tires slipping at 110mph on the strip” videos that we’ve run across on the Internet, some Mustang guys need more rear rubber.

Besides the car display, product showcase and owner meet-and-greet, APR Performance put on a catered BBQ (of which we partook ourselves) and a raffle with over $3000 in giveaways. We didn’t enter on account of journalistic integrity, the BBQ was enough to sway our judgment, but the Corvette, Viper and Mustang guys were able to take home car models, car covers, dusters, carbon fiber cooling plates and a huge carbon rear spoiler.

It’s always a good open house event when nobody crashes, everyone’s full, products are inspected and carbon fiber goodies are given away. Now if we could just rig the next one…
