Mitsubishi Owners Day 2009

Auto manufacturers don’t usually reach out very directly to enthusiast buyers. Sure, there are models for sale like the Lancer Evo, 911 GT3, Covette Z06 and Viper ACR that are designed to be sold solely to speed freaks.

But most non-grocery getters get cut loose once the car is off the dealership lot. Most companies aren’t interested in opening their corporate HQ’s doors up to a bunch of go-fast gearheads.

There are a few exceptions – Ford holds a local Southern California car meet regularly, Honda has a S2000 gathering and Mitsubishi has the annual MOD Mitsubishi Owners Day gathering.

More than just a show or car meet, MOD is special because of the level of support that Mitsubishi corporate provides. Organized and run by Mitsubishi, MOD features vendors, raffles, giveaways, a concert stage, display cars (Outlander GT, i-MiEV, etc) and lots and lots of room for regular car owners to show up and mingle. Cars were lined up as early as 6AM in order to grab the best parking spots.

Each car model had its own particular section to park with, for Eclipse, Evo or Starion owners to be able to show and mingle with each other. Our own Project Evo 9 was on hand, not in the owner parking area but in the vendor area.

We literally stayed up all night putting it back to time attack form for display, with the help of Mack at M1 Fabrication & Development, and then drove directly to the show from the shop. If anybody spied it sitting in the 5Zigen booth and came by to say hi, let us know!
