GReddy Garage Sale 2009

GReddy and its Japanese parent company, Trust, are both famous manufacturers of aftermarket parts that range from exhausts to oil to gauges. They’ve dabbled in parts for such cars as the VW GTI, Nissan GT-R and Subaru Impreza WRX STI. In the past, Trust has even run Le Mans with Toyota and Porsche Group C racecars. An aftermarket parts company that has run high-tech prototype racers, now that’s credibility. Try that with your favorite Ebay-friendly knock-off company.

So it comes as little surprise that the GReddy garage sale events are both hugely popular and highly anticipated. When GReddy announces their sale and posts up the dates, Internet forums light up with requests for price lists and organization of convoy parades down to the location. We’re guessing that e-friendly car enthusiasts have a hard time going it alone. Or maybe it’s the buddy system rearing its head again.

Whatever their reasons for coming, garage sale attendees can be assured of one thing, heavy discount pricing on parts. And discounts get people out of bed like nothing else. We attended GReddy’s garage sale two years ago and were greeted by a long line of eager buyers, whose numbers stretched around the block.

Apparently, some of them had even camped out, waiting for GReddy HQ to open up like some Black Friday special.

This year’s sale was held rain or shine, which was good considering heavy rain fell during the event. We ran into (not literally) two accidents on the way to GReddy though a rain soaked 405 South freeway. The poor weather conditions meant that this year’s sale was not as wild as previous years but the rain did weed out the hardcore from the casual. What was left was a group of dedicated car enthusiasts who bought to their heart’s content.

For this year’s event, GReddy decided to have multiple days, with two smaller tent sales outside of the main sale. The main sale featured heavy discounts on used R&D or display items and select brand new items like oil cooler kits, exhausts, intercooler kits, gauges, boost controllers, air intakes, shift knobs, oil and turbocharger kits. Although the sale items were in limited supply, the prices were enough to attract attention.

GReddy had their entire line-up of exhausts on sale, with select models from the Evo II, TI-C, SPII, G2/G2S euro, DT and Competition Ti-C lines at up to 50% off.

Cars that had exhausts on sale included the Scion xB, Audi A4, VW Golf, Nissan 350Z, Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9/X, Honda Civic, Accord, Acura RSX, Integra, Mazda RX-8, Dodge Neon SRT-4 and Toyota Celica. Probably one of the lowest prices we saw was a $50 G2/G2S Audi A4 exhaust system, which carried a normal MSRP of $689.

Also on sale were $200 oil cooler kits, $100 breather tanks, $900 Type-S suspensions, $95 tower bars, intercooler kits ($150 for a Evo 7 kit) and turbo kits ($850 for a Scion xB or Civic EX coupe kit).  Our empty wallet even coughed up $10 for a 1-liter bottle of Trust brake fluid.

Prices and parts being sold vary per GReddy garage sale, so these items probably won’t be on sale the next time this event rolls around. But when you’re talking about $200 TD04-19T turbochargers, there’s going to be some good deals. Just don’t miss out on the next one.
